Northwest – another culinary gem by Chef Sanjay Tyagi | Bangalore
Under the culinary aegis of world renowned Chef Sanjay Tyagi, we have another gem from his food treasure , Northwest Kebab and Curryhouse. An odyssey of flavours, ingredients and cooking styles from the erstwhile Gandhāra Province, now region in neighbouring Pakistan and Afghanistan, the menu has been meticulously curated by Chef Tyagi and his partner Shyam, incorporating some of the delectable offerings from the Kitchens of Kashmir, Pashtoon, Punjabi and even gulf region.
The restaurant is located in one of the food districts of Bangalore, Koramangla on the second floor, with a modern interiors, with warm lighting and magnificent view of the grill section of the Kitchen with Chefs at work.
We were privileged to have chef Tyagi present at the restaurant during our visit and tried some of the select dishes based on his recommendation.
Among the list was the Shinwari Kadhai , a Pakhtun tomato based smoked gravy mutton delicacy, cooked with spices and yoghurt, prepared in a Kadhai as a single serving. I have a weakness for Niharis and therefore could not resist asking for one here too. We loved the subtle flavours here. Mutton Behari, is another must try dish here, with minimalistic marination yet great flavours. If you are a kebabs lover, the menu here has wide range of kebabs and grills, from Chapali Kebab and Reshmi Kebab to Murgh ka Champ and Zafrani Tikka. The vegetarian and non eggetarian platters are great choices too as it offers various options on a plate.
Among the lentil dishes, the Slow cooked Dal Makhni along with Kairi aur Arharl ki Dal, tangy mango and lentil with preparation, are must haves here. Both go well with the two tawa breads here – the ulta tawa parantha & the stuffed Bikaneri parantha. Besides these, the menu has range of indian flat breads including Roghani Naan, Missi Roti and Laccha Parantha. The Zafrani Gosht Pulao, the Chicken Dum Biryani, Nizami Tarkari Biryani, and the Afghani Ghost Pulao are quite satiating too. Desserts are so outstanding here that I would not mind visiting here just for them. Do ask for Samak ke Chawal ki Phirni and Husn E Ara, when ever you are here.
Unarguably one the best places in Bangalore to have a Indian meal from the north western region. Chef Tyagi is a culinary genius when it comes to this cuisine. Did I mention you that he was the travelling Chef with our Prime Minister Modi during his South Korean trip few years ago.
